Moore Street, Dublin 1
For Field Day review December 2005
A series of photographs showing the extent of immigration in Ireland. Ireland has tradionaly been a country of emigration but now things have been reversed and the influx of new peoples into Ireland has had a huge impact on the indigenous population. Working as I do a lot of the time in the Parnell Square area I witness on a daily basis the changing face of the city, from the new Italian coffee bars though to the new Russian and Chinese shops on Moore Street and Parnell Street.
The faces that occupy the pavements is a complete mix of cultures and nationalities, those who now take Ireland to be home. I think a study of these areas would be best in colour rather than in black and white as this would show the different colours and mixes that these new shops and cultures have brought to our city.
As well as the positive benefits it would also be interesting to show, if possible, how the local population has integrated with these new cultures and to show benefits and negatives to this mass immigration.
The essay has to show people as the people are as an important facet of immigration as the place.
