Oxfam's overseas programme aims to give long-term support to people in Africa in a way that avoids dependency. We help people to help themselves. Working through local agencies, Oxfam Ireland co-operates with implementing local partners and other Oxfams. Oxfam believes in assisting people to gain control of their own economic and social development. Our programme aims to identify injustices that keep poor people poor and to help African communities to lobby for the basic human rights often taken for granted in Ireland.
